The DP encourages students to think critically, develop independence, and understand global contexts – preparing them for success at university and beyond.
Why choose the IB Diploma Programme?
- An internationally recognised qualification respected by universities worldwide.
- Full eligibility for all Swedish universities.
- Develops independence, critical thinking, and global perspectives.
- Combines academic rigour with personal growth through the IB Core.
- A strong qualification that makes your CV and university applications stand out.
Programme structure
Pre-Diploma Programme (Pre-DP)
In Sweden, upper secondary education requires three years of study. Students who have completed nine years of schooling (e.g. Swedish Grade 9) enter a Pre-Diploma Programme (Pre-DP) before beginning the two-year Diploma Programme.
The Pre-DP is a school-based preparatory year, not part of the IB, but designed to prepare students for the Diploma Programme. Courses are based on the Swedish national curriculum and taught in English.
Subjects in Pre-DP include:
- English
- Modern Languages
- Mathematics
- Sport & Health Studies
- Swedish or Swedish as a Second Language
- Social Sciences
- Integrated Science
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The IB Diploma Programme (DP1 & DP2)
The Diploma Programme is a two-year curriculum where students:
- Choose six subjects – at least three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL).
- Complete the IB Core:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – exploring the nature of knowledge.
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – learning through projects and experiences.
- Extended Essay (EE) – independent research in a topic of your choice (up to 4,000 words).

Students who successfully complete their subjects and the IB Core are awarded the IB Diploma – an internationally recognised qualification that opens doors to higher education worldwide.
